Are leadership skills necessary for college success? Why or why not? by Jordan - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

The key to success in any atmosphere whether it be home,work,school or community is understanding the need for leadership skills. I have learned just in my few short years of high school how imperative it is for one to possess leadership abilities. As I transitioned from middle school to high school it was so evident how much more valuable this asset would prove to be to me.

Upon entering the high school I saw that setting an example as an athlete really could make an impact not only to my teammates but also in the classroom and in the community. I learned that being a leader on the field not only entailed extremely hard work but also meant pushing other to demand the best form themselves on and off the field. By setting the example and holding my teammates to a higher standard they reflected that exception back to me. As a Senior this year I was able to be co caption of the varsity football.Not only was this a huge honor but meant that I had to be a leader. I had to work harder than most be willing to put in extra hours, extra time to help others. As the season came to an end I can say that I felt somewhat accomplished that we were able to work together as a team to be leaders in our school and on the field.

Transitioning from high school to college is going to be one of the biggest steps in my life. I know that the skills I have learned thus far are going to be the key to being successful in my endeavor to achieve a higher level of learning. Leadership helps you to strive to be more, strive to want more and work harder than everyone else to achieve those goals. It also makes you want to be that example and help to others.

By attending a high school where I had to step up and take important roles I have learned how profitable it is to be successful and to care about other. All things that we are and do truly are derived from the leaders that we are meant to be.
