Live life... Happy? by Jordan - February 2014 Scholarship Essay

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment. And I told them they didn't understand life.” – John Lennon

When you’re young you see the unlimited potential of the world. There’s so much good and happiness in our lives. And that natural unaware bliss is what we lose as we grow older and find the cruelties of people. Were expected to forgo this delight with the satisfaction of a strong career that allows us to show off our talents, but is that what we need? Shouldn't the point of life be to enjoy it as much as possible without limiting others joy? John Lennon understood at a young age that the world were put into doesn't fit what we were meant to be. Instead of trying to bottle us up into a specific life at such a young age, we should be fostering the growth of happiness. Those teachers did understand the assignment, the limitation and expectations set into it, but not what we should be truly focusing on. Living life so that you live the most content life possible should be our goal

Those teachers didn't understand life. They followed the archaic rules set for them that they and their ancestors had to follow. Find what you’re good at, make as much money as possible doing that, and die having lived a “full life.” Instead I think we should follow Mr. Lennon’s bright and youthful idea. All we truly want is to be happy, so why not be? We should follow our dreams and our hopes and our loves. Find what about this world makes our heart glow, then chase after it with all your energy. Pursue glowing dreams and live with love every day. Our lives are what we make them, so make them happy. Filly them with excitement if you crave thrill, and peace if you desire solitude. Life each moment with a smile played on your lips and try to fill each day as much joy as you can.
