Lesson Learned by Jonathan - November 2013 Scholarship Essay

Lesson Learned

Going through high school is a four-year life experience in its self. You definitely mature from middle school to high school and have more homework and studying than before, but one of the most valuable things that assists you in high school is asking questions and helping others is what makes you build great character.

If it wasn’t for my teachers, counselor, and mentors helping me with questions that I had on assignments, applications, and so many other things, I would not have been where I am today. These educators have guided me through obstacles and have modeled for me what it is to be a true leader.

My friends and group partners have also helped me get through that big exam or project that weighted a lot towards our grade. We met at each other’s homes or talked on the phone or Skype to work on schoolwork. Working with them and studying with them made what my grade point average is right now.

Lastly, helping my friends and others helped me as well. It has made me gain experiences that show I am ready for college and my career there after such as being responsible and dependable. I am there for my friends even though I am busy with other demands such as: football, chores, and volunteering at my local church. I will make myself available afterwards even in late hours. I make it a point to help my community by volunteering at my home church weekly in the kid’s ministry. I have done so since middle school.

With this in mind, asking questions and helping others has had a great impact on my life in high school. Now I know that I am ready to take on what college and my future has in store for me.
