While all leadership skills are equal, some are more equal than others. Simply possessing a skill does not guarantee college success, but everyone who graduates from college has a measure of leadership skills. Those who achieve outstanding success possess a variety and scope of leadership skills that give them an advantage over their peers.

There are many leadership skills that any student who decides to attend college must have. The first skill is initiative. In order to even enroll, college hopefuls have to find out the admission requirements for their school of choice, determine the cost of attending, and finally pay for their courses. Even if they have not decided on a major, new students must choose courses. This may be done with the assistance of a college counselor, but another valuable leadership skill is the ability to find those who possess knowledge one lacks. Without even these basic leadership skills, a college hopeful turns into a college wannabe.

After enrolling, the next goal of all successful college students is to pass their classes. This can be achieved through the application of another leadership skill – persistence. Whether it is through consistently attending classes, organizing study sessions, or last-minute cramming, students who pass their classes never give up. This skill may be underdeveloped or lacking in those who are unable to make it to graduation.

Students who graduate with honors display leadership skills that surpass those of their classmates. Highly successful students exhibit elevated levels of the leadership skills previously mentioned. In addition, they consistently organize their schedules to complete assignments, meet deadlines, and prepare for exams. They understand the value of finding others with common goals to combine resources and achieve results they could not reach alone.

Whether a college student enrolls for purely social reasons or with graduation in mind, each demonstrates at least some leadership skills. In order to be successful, college students need more than basic skill levels, they must be at least moderately developed. Those who strive for honors status demonstrate the most skills with the greatest variety. Without any leadership skills, potential students will never even make it through the application process.
