The Truth Is by Jesus - June 2014 Scholarship Essay
If I were to write a book it would be on the media’s effect on our society, and how the constant desire of well off groups to gain the maximum amount of profit has been, and will continue to debase what it means to be a human being. My book would not concern itself with viewpoints more than involving itself with the consequences of all groups involved. All is licit and all is fine as long as it doesn't hinder the rights and well-being of others. Yet while this morality is fine what happens when we lose our humanity?
My book would initially set the context of our current situation and through facts explain what parties are involved and how they truly benefit from the debasement of being a happy fulfilled individual. It would mention the recurrent theme of how companies commonly promote the premise that if you don’t have what they are selling then you aren't content or fulfilled. My book would also cover the constant relation these groups have with our would-be representatives. Major problems such as global warming would be mentioned. How politicians and lobbyist deny the possibility of adverse climate change for the purpose of hindering anything that will deny them capital wealth. How the film industry constantly promotes the debasement of women and sexualizes them for the purpose of increasing their film revenues. And how through our submissive compliance we promote the ideal that this is fine, that this is how human beings treat their peers. How every second we don’t fight these forms of behavior we subsequently promulgate the ideal that this is what it means to be a human being, that all of human complexity can be summed up to the gain of capital wealth and the idea of self-profit.
Nevertheless I would also mention how we as Americans, and citizens of planet earth, can perhaps set the standard for years to come as we gain more awareness of the parties involved with our day to day decisions. How the companies and groups that fuel us for our daily endeavors don’t have complete control of our lives and how through our knowledge of them and the niche they represent in the world we can, to a good degree, control the influence they have on our long term future.
