The National FFA Organization by Jessica - December 2013 Scholarship Essay

Have you ever become so close to a group of people they have become your second family? - I have. The National FFA Organization has provided me with a second family I am happy to be a part of. I’ve been part of FFA since my freshmen year in high school, I am now a senior and I still think joining FFA was the best decision I ever made.

FFA has practically made me the young lady I am today. It has taught many important qualities, some of them being respectfulness, leadership, and career success through agricultural education. FFA has so many activities that allow anyone to be involved, and every single activity is fun. One of my favorite is westerns days. We go to different children schools, and educate them about the FFA. We take all types of animals they can see. The children get to ride horses that we provide. We sing songs to the kids while they are on the wagon ride. The children learn about lambs, goats, and different farm animals. I love western day so much because for some of the kids it is the first time they even get to see some of these animals. It’s amazing to experience it with them. Also to see how excited they get when they walk out of their school and see the animals.

Another Activity I like about FFA is the different competitions, one of my favorites being Quiz. These competitions are probably the only thing I like to study for. Staying after school and enjoying the time with my fellow members to study. Then going out of town and meeting members from different towns. Even if we don’t do that great at the competition it is still a fun experience.

Out of all the different activities though, my favorite is participating in the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show. Even to clean the show barn to prepare it for the stock show I like to do, and I hate cleaning to that’s kind of a big thing. Having an animal and preparing it all year for the stock show has taught me so much responsibility, and I am immensely grateful for that. Even though sometimes it was a great struggle and very frustrating at times when the time comes around to show it was worth it. When I am awarded with a high place all the hard work I did was worth it.

I’ve made so many friends thanks to FFA. FFA has also opened up so many opportunities for me. Some including different scholarships, and different camps I have been able to attend. If you are looking for an amazing experience through high school I highly recommend joining FFA.
