Business Professionals of America leadership by Jessica - December 2013 Scholarship Essay

During my junior and senior year in high school I participated in Business Professionals of America. During my senior year I became the president for my local chapter. Through this I met a lot of amazing people and had many life changing experiences. I made memories that will last a lifetime. Through my role as president, I had the opportunity to learn from everyone and inspire others to do there best and go beyond. I had the chance to change life's.

Through my role as president, I was in charge of coming up and putting together fund raisers. I of course had help from the other officers as well. In one year we raised over a thousand cans of food and collected many coats and gloves for a “stuff the bus” project. We also raised over $1,500 for children with leukemia. The results of these fundraisers were huge blessings to the families who received everything. It was a great honor for me to be able to motivate my fellow classmates to participate in all the projects we did.

This organization gave me great opportunities to do a multitude of different volunteer projects. I did everything from helping the elderly doing yard work to causing awareness of different dangers like texting and driving. I was honored with a torch award at the Business Professionals of America State conference in spring of 2013. this is an award to recognize leadership in a community. Everything I have ever done through this program I will take with me for the rest of my life and I will always cherish those memories. This organization made me a better person and opened my eyes to everything that is around me. I learned a lot abut myself and I plan on making a bigger impact on society once I attain my degree in journalism.
