Foresight by Jessica - November 2013 Scholarship Essay
“May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, the foresight to know where you are going, and the insight to know when you have gone too far.” These are the famous words of an Irish Blessing bestowed upon those who require inspiration.
The most valuable lesson I learned was during my junior year in high school, I participated in an upper level English class with a very motivating teacher who taught her class the value of foresight. She taught us to apply this ideal not only in the class room but in our everyday lives as well. She reminded us each day about the things we needed to accomplish in order to succeed in college and life thereafter. She constantly created exercises that forced us to think intuitively and creatively. She inspired her students to be knowledgeable in every aspect including intelligence, culture, politics, sociology and psychology. She influenced many of her pupils to analyze situations for more than their face value. She allowed the class to research colleges and begin writing admissions essays which she edited and revised. She encouraged us to have foresight about college education so that our future would come easily unto us, and we would be better able to pursue our dreams. I accept this advice and apply it in my everyday life by striving to attain successful grades and accomplish community service that will enrich my future.
With my foresight, I hope to accomplish magnificent achievements in my lifetime. My teacher has taught me the immeasurable value of perspective and preparation necessary for pursuing a post secondary education to fulfill my dreams of becoming a nurse and having a positive impact on people’s lives.
