Don't be scared it's only High School by Jerrod - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

High School, some say it's the best time of your life. Some also say that it can be the worst time of your life. I come from a small school but it was a little scary for me to enter high school. The first day of school was just an ordinary first day for me. My school is one school, grades K-12. I started at Hanson in Kindergarten. So it's not like I was going to a whole different school. But even though I go to a small school I do have great advice for freshman now since I'm a senior.

My one piece of advice would be to actually try as hard as you can to keep your GPA high going into your sophomore year. When I was a freshman I had some hard classes, for example Spanish 1, Geometry, and Physical Science. Now what I mean is getting a C as a freshman will hurt your GPA if you want to end up with a very high GPA. My personal experience is I had a C+ in Spanish and at the time as a freshman I was like, “oh well it will get better, I have three years left”. Looking back on it I would give anything to take that class over and pay attention better because now I could have close to a 3.8. But now I have a 3.7 just because I was lazy and didn’t think it would do anything. Incoming freshman try as hard as you can day in and day out because it will pay off in the long run.
