None of us Move Foreword if Half us our Held Back: Woman Empowerment by Jennifer - July 2015 Scholarship Essay
While in college my one goal to accomplish would be to become an empowered woman. This is my most important goal because being empowered I can make the most out of myself. I believe that being an empowered woman will break the stereotypes about woman pursuing secondary education. Coming from a small town, it has been so great to be at a university where my voice can make a difference. I am studying Sociology with an emphasis in Criminology, diversity and stratification, and Spanish. I believe that an empowered woman should be very well educated and know how to use her knowledge to help others. I have the confidence that through my experience and the courses that I have taken, I will be able to go back to my community and contribute in the percentage of students who graduate high school and pursue secondary education.
Wanting to become an empowered woman, and empower others is also the goal of my sorority. We work to make sure all of our sisters are succeeding in their school, work, and home life. I believe this trait is important especially while in college because often times we woman will shy away from opportunities because we simply don’t believe in ourselves. Our campus is very respectful and accepting of female scholars, but my Hispanic culture is very different. We woman have always been taught to be submissive to men. This is a culture I would like educate and to show that we woman have a head of our own and can hold it up. This is my most important goal to accomplish while begin in college, to be an empowered woman. Education is a big characteristic to an empowered woman.
