The right direction by Jennifer - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
To be successful in college, I will discover my passion. As long as I am constantly moving and working towards my goals I would consider myself successful. I have ideas of what field I want to study in, but I will not limit myself to those ideas. To be successful in college I will discover who I want to be.
Self-driven high school graduates who are on a mission to figure out what their occupation is going to be, want to know how they are going to support themselves from certain occupations. Their first real concern is how they are going to make money because they think money is what will make them successful. However, it’s not the physical money that determines whether you are successful. It’s what you accomplished to gain that money. This is why success can never be measured by currency because the currency is a byproduct of achieving a goal. Currency is never the actual goal. Your personal success is measured by how well you are climbing up the right wall towards your potential.
Successful people have the independent will power to commit to whatever it is they are most passionate about. Consider being blind and deaf, but also having intellectual qualities: being an admirable writer, an inspiring advocate, and a persistent learner. Helen Keller is a prime example of how possessing an independent will is the foundation to success. She had a significant disadvantage due to her disabilities, and not only was she able to overcome the hardship of her shortcomings, but with persistence, she was able to accomplish insurmountable achievements. Helen lacked two major senses that are an important part of life experiences, but as proactive as she was, she pushed both external and internal struggles aside. As Helen Keller once said, “The most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight but no vision”. When we know what is deeply important to us, and have a vision, we will do anything to make it a reality. When net worth is not a concern because our minds are so invested in what we are passionate about; that is when we will be successful.
