Matured Protector by Jennifer - October 2019 Scholarship Essay
Ever since my brother and I were younger we had always had a close relationship, we looked out for each other and like other siblings we always looked for ways to bother each other as well. Ever since I could remember it was always my brother and I for everything, both my parents worked so that meant that my brother, since he was older, had to look out for me and make sure I was okay. He did the above and beyond for me, he would always ask me if I needed help or if I needed a hug which really made me look up to him for everything. My older brother name is Marco and for me it was more then just a simple name it was my safe word, whenever I would get nervous, anxious, or scared I would spell out my brother name and it’s acronym I had for it, M meant merry, A meant amusing, R meant relax, C meant Calm, and finally O meant optimistic. Those were were the words I would describe my brother because he always had those qualities inside him that made him more distant from others from others in life. Above all he is a well educated person, being in the top 10 percent of his graduating class of high school and being recognized of many clubs and organizations like key club and national honors society made me realize that my brother achieved all these recognitions by himself without any guidance, which motivated me to try my hardest to hopefully get into a good university and complete my nursing degree. Marco is currently enrolled at the University of Illinois at Chicago getting his degree of Mechanical engineering and I could not be any more proud of him. When I first mentioned that I wanted to be a nurse my brother supported me and started to guide me through some schools and things I should be while I’m still enrolled in high school and the type of classes that would help me later on in my life. Even thought everything I have accomplished in my high school career like key club, soccer, Spanish club, Spanish honors society, and being in multiple honors and AP classes could not all be because of my brother because I also tried hard for those things, my brother had a big impact on me encouraged me to continue harder everyday. I’m currently in my senior year of high school and getting ready for college and even thought it seems very stressful right not for me I know I will do just fine because I have both my parents support but most importantly I have my brothers support.
