Value of a Leader by Jehovangi - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

Being a follower rarely works out for anybody. You'll find yourself in troubling situations. You'll end up following the wrong crowd and end up sorry that you have. You'll be at the back of the classroom cracking jokes but when the test rolls around you'll find out the jokes weren't so funny. Then you'll be looking at the one kid in the class and wishing you had the leadership skills that that kid has.

Leadership skills are necessary for success in college as you need them in order to stay at the top. It is always the leader who ends up the valedictorian. It is always the leader who ends up the president of a club. It is always the leader who guides the class in group discussions and leads them to new levels. It is leadership skills that led that kid to choose his studies over going out with friends. These skills will have one truly get the most that one can out of college.
Success in college will have only been worthwhile for students if that success translates into success in their career. Graduates who have been leaders in college will not have an issue using their leadership skills learned in college in their careers. They will lead meetings, get the job done correctly, and find themselves getting promoted quickly in a company. Those without the leadership skills will find this task difficult, and may experience their career suffering from their lack of these skills.

It is always the leaders who end up having the most success both in college and in life as leadership skills are necessary to do so.
