What Makes my dream college a “dream” by Jeanette - August 2020 Scholarship Essay

A “dream college” means a different thing to everyone. My entire childhood, movies tried to tell me that my “dream college” was be an Ivy League. For example I could be like Sam Montgomery from A Cinderella Story and go to Princeton, or I could be like Taylor McKessie from High School Musical and go to Yale. Movies try to tell you that your dream school has to be prestigious or extremely hard to get into, but I disagree completely. My dream college is somewhere that makes me feel like the main character in a story, I mean, it’s my dream isn’t it?
My dream college is small, but full of the most amazing people; it’s where I meet my closest friends and my future husband. The people I meet at my dream college push me to be the best I can be. With the friends I meet at my dream school, I will be able to have fun when learning and learn to have more fun. So much of my time during high school was dedicated to preparing for my future, so I will be taking every opportunity to enjoy what I worked so hard for.
Environment is also a huge part of my dream school. The weather, college town, and campus must be exactly how I like them in order for me to call it my “dream school.” The campus must be in the middle of a fun and exciting town, but the campus itself is quiet, beautiful, and spaced with green grass and tall trees. Preferably, the weather is changing. Being able to watch the seasons change is reassuring to me, and I like being able to adapt to each of the seasons. My dream school is somewhere that the environment suits me and that I feel at peace going to.
Most importantly, my dream school is a school that challenges me. I want to feel as if I worked for every single step of my college career. I want my classes to frustrate me from time to time because I want to be proud when I get an A. I want to be nervous when I receive my acceptance letter because I need to know that my dream school is one that you work to get into. Finally, I want my dream school to make me work as hard as I possibly can, so when I walk across the stage at graduation, I know that I earned it.
My dream college is difficult for me to define because everyone's definition is different. As someone who has no idea which school is their dream school, I can say that I’ll be able to recognize it when I see it because I will feel as if I just belong. I will feel like it’s my time to shine and my turn to succeed. My dream college makes me feel like I am the main character.
