The teacher that inspired me to do my current major and school by Jaymisen - June 2021 Scholarship Essay
Different people will say that their influential teacher is an English teacher, a math teacher, etc. My influential teacher is different than the rest, and I will tell you why.
The most influential teacher I had was my high school choir director. I had this teacher from my sophomore year to Senior year. When we first met, I wasn't trusting as first, as I had at least 3 choir directors from my education leave my programs after I left. The last one left at the end of my freshman year. He made a promise that he would never leave the program early, and he never let me down on this promise.
Fast forward to my senior year, and it was close to the end of my senior year. I was currently waiting on results from NAU's school of music. I finally got the results in the mail, and I was limited on what I could do music major wise. I wanted to be a music performance major, but I could only take the liberal arts major, or do a completely different major and do a minor in music. I was heart broken on this news and was in shock in what I could do.
The next day, I told my director the news during the day that I would usually stay in his room to wait for my ride to pick me up. He was very surprised about the news. I told him my options and left it at that for that day.
The next day, we had a rehearsal after school. As I was the first person to come as I was an in person kid, he sat me down before rehearsal started and gave me some well needed wisdom. He said that to not be discouraged, and as he knew I was a christian and he was also a christian too, he said that it could be God telling me something and God could be bringing me to a different path.
The next few weeks, I was thinking about my director's words, and then I was told about Arizona Christian University by my best friend. She told me all about it, and that's when I decided to apply to that university. The very next day, I got accepted!
Now, the major part. I always observed how my director did things. At one point I would of never imagined being in education. Seeing how my director did things, I decided to major in music education, emphasis in voice.
In the end, my director has inspired me in many ways through his wisdom and experience through life. He has helped me with life and given the best wisdom that I always think about today.
I am not the only one who has felt an impact from our director. He has inspired others and gave advice to others that has helped others with his advice. I can not thank him enough for how much he has been a role model to me.
Present time, he is now a great friend of mine and is starting his 4th year teaching at my high school which I have graduated at a few weeks ago. I will be starting college in 2 months. I have been accepted into the music program at Arizona Christian University. I am the happiest I have been. I am thankful that I made the decision and I followed his advice.
