A College education is a venture in life that many talk about achieving but few actually set out and accomplish. A vast majority of leaders throughout history have excelled at their education because they had the typical traits of leaders. Some of the major traits are being great communicators, being proactive, and being resourceful. All of which are necessary to be successful in ones education.

In college there is a lot of communicating throughout ones experience. Leaders typically are great at communicating with others. They are able to speak with people from many different walks of life, all of which have different opinions other than themselves. This trait is extremely necessary to be successful in ones college education. Throughout ones college experience they will meet new people, professors, and employers and there will be times when there will be a lot of communicating. An example of this could be when one is speaking to a professor. Without being extremely proficient in the skill of communicating one could be speaking to their professor and not accurately ask the right questions to get the information they need to get a better grade. This could result in whether or not you get that higher grade you wanted that pushes you closer towards your final goal that your originally set out on for your education. Another example of how this trait is beneficial is when meeting a potential employer, employers look to college students for future employees for their company so there could be a time where someone meets a future employer and acts extremely reserved and shy because they do not possess the leadership quality of being a good communicator with others. This could result in someone not obtaining the job they have been working all their life for because they could not communicate effectively.

A trait that is extremely pertinent to the success of ones college career is whether or not someone can be proactive. Leaders typically are extremely proactive, they have to in order to be a successful leader. They see a potential obstacle and create the necessary path to overcome said obstacle before it happens. This is crucial to college success; every test a student takes throughout their college career is a potential obstacle that needs a clear path in order to overcome it. A person who is proactive will be able to see the potential obstacle coming ahead and come up with a way to conquer that obstacle whether it is an upcoming test or a project. A person who is not proactive will have an obstacle in their future but dwell on the fact that they have an obstacle in their way rather than finding a way to overcome it.

Another trait that is necessary for college success is to be resourceful. Leaders have to be resourceful; they are usually responsible for many people other than themselves. They must be able to be creative enough to use what they have available to them to survive and thrive. This corresponds with a person’s college education; a student typically has lots of things to learn but not a lot of time. In order to survive this one must be resourceful. An illustration of this is when a student has a huge exam on many materials, they have to be resourceful and come up with ways to learn all the materials in the amount of time they are allotted. They may have to buy new books, borrow books from their local library, or have someone else who specializes in the subject help them learn. In order to do any and all of these one must be resourceful enough to locate and set up these opportunities to set themself up for success.

Overall college is a place where one either takes a path to success or a path to failure, what determines that path is the characteristics the person possesses. Education is a rigorous task with countless future benefits, a task that requires one to be a great communicator, be proactive, and to be resourceful. All of which are qualities that a typical leader would possess.
