I believe the purpose of education can not be simplified into one specific thing. There are many reasons why people receive an education. People pursue an education to teach others, to prepare for jobs, and to prepare people for adult decisions.

One purpose of pursing an education is to teach others. Education isn’t just about learning facts and dates; it’s also about teaching a child how to learn effectively. Teaching a person how to learn and how to direct their own learning is very useful. If a person is not taught how to learn, their educational growth could be stunned. It’s also a skill that will take them very far in life.

Another purpose of pursing an education is to prepare for jobs. Many jobs today in America require more than a high school degree. A person with a college education are more likely to get a job, as there are few jobs that require uneducated people. If a person has an education, they have more freedom and more options to choose from when looking for a job. They are certainly more likely to make a living wage when they grow older, which also may keep them from a life of crime.

Lastly another purpose of pursing an education is to prepare people for adult decisions. Part of education is learning how to think and to learn. This is part of making adult decisions. Even though schools do not teach morality, they do show children how to learn morality and to learn from the decisions of others. Classes such as Civics and Economics can teach students how to manage and budget their money.

The purpose of education is a wide topic. There are many reasons why people chose an education. Reasons range from wanting to have a better life to simply wanting to teach the upcoming generation the importance of learning in today’s society. Lastly, education can also be used to prepare you for a better job or career and also to prepare you for adult decisions.
