A TED talk called "Women's Roll in Society". by Jasmine - July 2017 Scholarship Essay

A TED talk is a showcase for the presentation of informational, well-informed ideas. If I were to present a TED talk of my very own, I would discuss the importance of a woman’s role in society. It is very important that the women of today know how imperative they are to the community that surrounds them. In fact, women birth and raise the very politicians, doctors, and lawyers that we all push ourselves to be. I would want to change the point-of-view of the audience member who may believe that women are bound to more basic obligations, and not those of corporate counsel, nurse practitioner, or president of these United States. It is truly saddening to think that a woman could believe that she is of less importance than her male counterpart.
My TED talk would not be exclusive to neither men, nor women, because I believe that it is important to reveal the significance of the female and to raise the expectations of what she can deliver, to everybody. I would use examples of successful women who have thus far proven their ability. I would reveal the stories of the women who have been hidden behind the gloating faces of men, that helped place a human being on another planet. I’d want for men to understand that the woman sitting next to him is completely capable of doing what he can, both mentally and physically. I would hope that from this TED talk, women would leave feeling liberated, but not conceited. My intention would be to create an equal playing ground for all sexes, to close the wage gap, and to strengthen the abilities of our nation altogether.
