The Nearby Future by Jantzen - July 2015 Scholarship Essay

The topic of the essay “one goal that I hope to accomplish in college” is one that I have pondered for some time now. The idea that a huge part of my future life starts in 5 years, and “it can wait” is not one to be questioned. The future has been starting at this very moment! Decisions, that we are making, are instantaneously proceeding our future events. An example in my life was choosing to attend a college, away from home. When the time for choosing to do this was past, the time for preparation was at hand. After making the decision, it was completely evident that my future life time events were literally before me. The mere thought of trying to pay for schooling, starting a family and looking to a very unsure future, was evident. After the time of making this decision to attend a university for mechanical engineering, my main goal has been looking at preparing myself for the future. I wish to accomplish the task of going through the different excitements college has to offer with a brightness of HOPE and a willing heart! Many things are now before me… The anxieties and stresses of the impact my decisions will have are sometimes daunting. Is it not reasonable to wish to remain hopeful in the wonderful possibility that the future is bright, if we choose to see it that way?

I understand that life throws us curves and we have to roll with it. We are impacting our future path with decisions we are making at this very moment! I understand that the path I take in college will directly impact my future happiness. I have decided that my main goal is to remain hopeful no matter what challenges I face, and to provide this same hope and assistance to my colleagues and all others I am surrounded with. My hope is that I can be a source of positivity and keep that brightness of hope alive in me, and make a great effort into giving that hope to all I come in contact with. I wish to be kind to others, and to be the type of person that people can talk to, and rely on for encouragement and support. I want to be that person that says, “I can do this!” “We can do this!” because together we can accomplish so much more in this world, than we can individually. We can all make a difference in life to truly have hope and create a brighter future for ourselves and the world around us.

Having hope in something is very natural for a human being. One could say, that hope is a delicate attribute to develop and build. I wish to have the ability to stand firmly on my two feet, and just take a deep breath and have faith in my future, and hope for a better tomorrow! Because all too often, fear can engulf a person. We all need hope in this life; our friends, family, neighbors, one’s self and the whole world….basically everyone! We all need it! When those final exams come at each end of the semester, I want give my very best effort in my studies and just have hope in the outcome, but also forgetting all fear. I want to let hope and hard work help me along the way through this life. I desire to continue and seek in knowledge and growth. My greatest desire is to have a stronger ability to hold onto the hope of which I currently have, and continue to uplift and build upon it. This truly is exactly what I want to accomplish in college: Having the confidence of holding firmly to a brightness of hope in my future, and sharing that hope with all I come in contact with, to create a brighter future for all!
