Having an education can seamlessly open up a world of possibilities and opportunity for an individual. As the saying goes, “Knowledge is power”- those who have chosen to seek an education are undoubtedly leaders and role models within their community. Though the journey of receiving an education may not always be the easiest; the mere purpose of obtaining an education makes it all worthwhile. An individual on this journey will not only gain further understanding of the subject, but one will be able to equally teach others about the learned subject and positively influence those around them.

One of the main reasons why people strive to be educated is to gain knowledge on a subject. The idea of not knowing or even not knowing enough can be a setback. For instance, one may have to go back to school to meet the requirements for a certain job. In other words, one of the purposes of an education is to be at a mastery level of performance and understanding. A good education not only ensures these previously mentioned factors, but it also makes getting a job easier. As humans we want to belong and with an education one can find their niche; securing their own place in society.

Another notable purpose of education is being able to pass on what you have learned to others. In order to teach effectively and properly one must be knowledgeable of the subject. And to be knowledgeable one must first seek an education! Once you have been educated it is ones responsibility to go out into the world and inform others. Be mindful that some may not have the same means as you to receive an education and you may be their only hope. As individuals step up and teach others, they become leaders and role models within their community.

Thus allowing the educated individual to positively influence and impact their community. To put it simply, education is equivalent to a fruit bearing seeds that will create a multitude of more produce. The community is rich soil-waiting to be used. In this case, taught. The educated individual is the farmer who will plant these seeds amongst the soil; creating more produce and wealth for all.

Ultimately, the purpose of education can be put into three distinct categories: the first being to gain knowledge, next is being able to teach others, and thirdly enriching ones environment. Whether it is for oneself to gain an education or to better ones surroundings both will occur while obtaining an education. Again, though the journey may be rough; these purposes continually inspire me to pursue an education.
