Growing up I wanted to be a superhero. I wanted a flashy cape, and a bedazzled mask. I wanted to save the world, and make it back home for dinner time. As I grew up I realized that would not be possible. As I grew older, I was able to witness things that wanted me to change the circumstances of the environment around me. College has given me a new perspective as to what I would want to do for the rest of my life. In my community, I am one of the few that have decided to pursue a higher education. I realize that God has placed me in this world for a specific reason. Growing up in my community I was able to witness many things happen to my peers, and families. I have a strong belief in myself, that I am able to make a change in my community, and for the generations to come. The reason why college is so important is because it gives you a chance at becoming something great in life. You are able to enter a world that would give you new experiences and connections.
Since coming to college I am able to start a new journey to my career. The opportunities that you are able to receive can put you to the frontline of accomplishing your dreams. College is a stepping stone in continuing my education to help others, who were just like me. I am able to show everyone from my community that we are more than what we come from. Being able to receive an education should be praised. Although sometimes it may be hard, it will be worth it. College is that extra push to continue my passion to succeed in my career. It gives me the power to change my family narrative by focusing on my goals, despite the cost. Going to college gives me motivation to show the children back home that if I can do it, they are able to do it. As many know college is very expensive, so anything helps when you are pursuing your dreams.
