Importance of College by Jamia - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

College opens the world to many opportunities, connections and financial freedom. Despite the increased price over the years, there is a reason why college degrees are in high demand. Not everyone needs college. Many people may start their own businesses or take a route that doesn’t require a degree. However college allows for more stability.
High school gives the basic knowledge needed for each student to have a taste of what field they would like to go into. College allows each student to explore their chosen field on a deeper level. High school is like the roots of the tree. It is very important. It is the structure needed for the tree to be big and strong. College is the trunk. It is the stability needed to grow tall. Out of it, grows branches and leaves which represents the opportunities that come after.
Going to college expands the career option pool. There are several jobs that could come from one degree. For example, someone who graduated with a bachelors in business could choose to be employed in the fields of accountancy, advertising, financial services, general management, public relations , retail management, and sales and marketing. With these job opportunities comes higher pay. Education literally pays.Typically those with a college degree earn more than those without. Also, those with degrees are most likely chosen for a job over those without.
The underlying reason why most do not go to college is simple. It's because of money. College is highly expensive. One year at a college or university costs on average about twenty thousand dollars. Most who cannot afford this usually end up in debt that would take a lifetime to pay. Unpaid debt leads to bad credit which affects your ability to get a house, car, or even a loan. Why go to college and get a job just to use the money from that job to pay for debt accumulated in college? As the tuition increases the value of a degree doesn’t seem to be rising with the tuition. The return on investment in degrees may not be sufficient to justify the cost.
Yes, college is expensive. However, there are so many financial assistance options that can lessen or even eliminate the amount of college tuition. Scholarships and grants are the most popular option. Scholarships given to you free money. It could be based on financial need, merit, community evolvement, or nothing at all. The more someone applies for scholarships the better their chances are of getting one. Another option is simply applying for financial aid. This gives the college an idea of how much assistance a person might need for them to afford the college. Another option to make college less expensive is applying for a college in the state. Each option makes for an affording college experience.
Overall, college is the more stable way to success and for some the only means of success. It is the prime factor to amazing doctors, engineers, and financially supported families. It’s shortcomings do not outweigh its value. Afterall, most good things come at a price.
