Be ENgaged by Jaime - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

Because it relates to forced learning, most teenagers often view school as a loathing experience; however, I believe that this reluctance to learn comes from feeling dis-attached to school activities. Fortunately, I was motivated to be active in my school community.
ENLACE- ENgaging LAtino Communities in Education- is a program that introduces adolescents to valuable skills that prepare us for life after high school. While it is suggested in the name, this program is not only for Latinos; ENLACE is offered as a school course to all students wanting to be academically engaged. We go through assignments and projects that require us to think deeply into ourselves in order to illuminate our goals for the future. Mr. Morales, our prodigious teacher, verifies we are being exposed to adult-like situations, right now we are planning a trip and us students are the ones planning the schedule, making reservations, searching for the appropriate activities to indulge in, of course with the supervision of our teacher; consequently, we are making calls, managing time frames, interacting as groups to conclude the best option for everyone as a whole, in particular actions that we will be required to know for the future.
Another advantageous feature, is we have created a safe environment along the walls of Mr. Morales’ classroom; as a result, we see each other as family with whom we can express and communicate ourselves. We have created that trust needed to enforce lasting friendships.
ENLACE is definitely preparing me for college and life after high school. This commodity has truly shaped my sights on advancing to bigger responsibilities; moreover, it has enhanced my work ethic and my leadership skills.
