Rediscovering the Beauty of Learning by Jack - December 2020 Scholarship Essay

New Year's Resolutions have always been something that my family talks about as each year draws to a close. Sometimes we discuss random areas of our lives in which we would like to improve, other years we make a resolution for specific categories such as fitness, family, or faith. This year, possibly more than ever, I am ready to make a New Year's resolution focused on education.

As a high school senior, I would like to focus in this upcoming year on starting off college strong. When I began high school four years ago, I was dedicated to school and to my studies. While I have maintained a solid GPA of 3.95 throughout my high school career, I sometimes feel as if I have lost that drive in the classroom and love for education. Especially this last semester, during my senior football season, I have not given the proper amount of time to my school work. This is something that I deeply regret and not only saddens me, but makes me want to improve and work to fix it.

For this reason, I would like to commit to not only finishing high school off on a high note, but also rediscovering my love of learning as I head into college and the next stage of my life. I hope that I will be able in this upcoming year to once again see the beauty that exists learning and appreciate more deeply the education I have been blessed with. In my opinion, this is the purpose of New Year's resolutions: to be able to honestly assess yourself and the failings of the previous year and work to improve them. I believe that by making this resolution and holding myself accountable throughout the year of 2021, I will not only better my education, but better myself as an individual.
