Maybe substitutes aren't all that bad.. by Isaac - June 2021 Scholarship Essay
You know what doesn't butter my bread? This famous quote right here.
" Wait, we have a sub next period? You already know I'm skipping class."
This doesn't wrap around my head, never has and honestly don't think it ever will. Some of the most fun I have ever had in my high school career was when we had a substitute teacher. Especially from a man by the name of, Mr. Eubanks. Only having subbed me 10 times max in my high school career, is more than enough to influence me for the rest of my life.. 4th period was my English class that he would almost always be subbing at, which means I could come in from 3rd period all high, mighty and extremely confident, because that was my ASB student leadership classroom, where I would be in charge of putting on all of the schools biggest events or solving the schools biggest problems. Eubanks would ALWAYS humble me. Now I don't mean he would call me out in front of the class or anything, but just through the way he acted, carried himself and treated others. It made an impact on me. A big one.
Now Mr. Eubanks was from Texas and he was proud about it. You didn't really have a class with Eubanks unless you heard 1 of his hundreds of Texas stories. I'm not sure if it was the Southern hospitality or just how he was as a person, but he always knew how to turn that frown upside down. He was always one of my biggest supporters and no matter how big of a mistake I made, he made it an effort to look at the positive and the good in me. Emotional is one word that I would most defiantly use to describe him. Every year he would cry at the ending of Romeo and Juliet. Every single year and that's he is such a big influence to me. He is hands down the most real person I have ever met. This 60 year old humble and positive man, really changed my life for the better.
Thank you Eubanks, I owe you one. May our good God bless!!
