Inspiration and Encouragement by Isaac - October 2019 Scholarship Essay

There are many people who have inspired me academically and personally. I have been inspired by the ancient mathematicians and scientists that have filled our books with knowledge. I have been inspired by books, art, and technology. However, the person that has inspired me the most is my mother.
My mother has given up her career to put her children before herself. She values education as she is a registered nurse, who educates her patients on a routine basis. She put her career on hold to stay home with her children. She started teaching us as infants, she would read us forensic novels until we feel asleep. As we aged, she would spend time making games for us to increase the fun of learning. Writing and reading were a mainstay for us as children. We were encouraged to learn at our own pace, but she also pushed us forward to harder and more advanced studies. Homework was always a priority. Education was always a priority. The nights she spent after work checking homework, helping us all to understand the work, and putting our education above herself has showed me how important education is to succeed in life. When my youngest brother was not able to go to a routine brick and mortar school, my mother once again, but his education first and started to home school him. The devotion she showed us, inspired us to learn. The hours she has spent making educational tool to get him to learn, focusing on the power that education has, to help us communicate even our basic needs. She has showed us that not everyone learns the same, but there is always a way to get someone to learn to the best of their abilities.
Though sometimes the routine seemed strict as a younger child, I can see now, that this was all done to get us to have a love of learning. Now as I am finishing my high school education, I see now that this was all to prepare us for college and life. I now have a great work ethic and study habits. I have come to understand that you must push yourself to be the best you can be. Without her dedication and persistence in keeping all of us on tract, I would not have the time management skills, dedication to learning, and above all the inspiration to achieve all that I can both academically and as a member of my community.
Inspiration comes in many shapes, forms, and ideas. It can come from the most educated and unique people throughout history. However, inspiration can come from the mundane, everyday acts from someone who puts the needs of others above their own. In my opinion there is nothing more a family could ask for.
