Imagine this: a group of girls are all going away to college together. They’ve never met before until they get to Freshmen orientation. When they arrive, they are all flustered from their drive in and overwhelmed with the craziness of a college campus. None of them no where to go or what to do. There’s so many activities and majors and dorms and roommates to choose from. How will anyone know what on earth is going on? Then one girl decides to approach another and they quickly become friends. As they talk for a couple of hours, they decide to be roommates. They also plan on rushing together for a sorority and joining the club volleyball team. They also include the rest of the group in their plans and all become best friends. Fast forward twenty years and these girls are all getting together for a reunion with their husbands and kids. Now, without the one girl’s leadership skills, these life-long friends would have never been.

I believe leadership skills are extremely important for anyone going to college. Possessing these qualities will allow you to make positive social relationships and make group study a breeze. Like the above story, taking initiative when it comes to meeting other people will most likely end in a positive manner. When going to college, it is important to join as many clubs and activities as are feasible for you. This will give you the self-leadership you need in order to succeed. Having self-leadership shows that you possess the drive to do something great for yourself. These skills are also necessary when it comes to class work. A lot of the time, professors will have you break off into smaller study groups or lecture groups. If there is no leadership in these groups, they become unproductive. The leaders will shine in the group and catch the eye of the professor who might not know them otherwise. Leadership skills are a necessity when it comes to succeeding in and outside of the classroom in college.

Personally, I know I am adequately prepared for college in my leadership skills. I know that I will be able to succeed in the classroom and interact with my fellow classmates. I see other people that I currently go to school with and I have come to the realization that they will not be going very far. I believe that the people who won’t stand out will just get left behind. This also relates to life because it’s the ones who lead the way and aren’t afraid of anything that succeed. Leadership skills are most definitely necessary if you are looking to succeed in college.
