Are leadership qualities necessary for a successful journey in college? The answer is yes. There are many who may argue this but I for one believe that if I were not a leader then I would not be as successful as I have been so far in college. A leader in your own life at least is what it takes. The qualities of a leader are those of honesty, commitment, positive attitude, creativity, and confidence. In this case it’s not over a group of people but more over your own person.

First of all, honesty is key especially if you are just starting college. You must not cheat yourself by saying why did I get such a bad grade but instead recognize that you did not spend enough time studying. Many beginner college students just do not want to take the time to really study the material. It takes two hours for every hour of class that you have of studying.

That’s when commitment kicks in. You must commit to studying the necessary hours. Also, you must commit to attending on a regular basis. Along with that, participating while in class is part of the commitment you took when signing up for the class. If there is no commitment on the student’s part then they end up failing or dropping the class only to have to take it again later.

Attitude plays a big role when being a leader in your own college career. Try to have a positive attitude because if you feel negative about being in a certain class then you are most probably to want to do horribly. Even if the class is not one you want to be in, it will make sense later why you had to take the class in when applying what learned to real life situations. Every class you take towards your major are geared to prepare you take learn to have a broad thinking when applying to the job.

Creativity is very important in being a successful leader. Creativity comes to play when if something does not work out like you planned then you must rethink a different approach to achieving your goal. If you did badly on an exam, for example, then you must change the way you studied for it. You cannot be stuck on a one way mentality approach to something. That is with anything in life you must reorganize yourself for success.

Lastly, confidence is what many successful leaders have as their main quality. You must have confidence in yourself. This will keep you calm in stressful situations. Step back and take a breather to distress and know that once rested you will be back on your game. Trust in your abilities and you soon will be moving forward again.

Definitely a leadership approach to your own life will help bring you to a successful college career!
