Track by Hector - November 2020 Scholarship Essay

I'm thankful for track because it helped me build a better mindset. I know that other subjects can teach me more and they have dramatically over the years but track is what started it off for me.
Middle school year I was barely passing and at the very bottom for being athletic. I wasn't in any Pre-AP or AP classes and I was lazy helping my future.
It wasn't till about 7th grade year I was fed up with it. I was so mad at myself and embarrassed because I didn't have anything going for me. I didn't know what to start with so I started with track because it was my first class and the one I hated the most. Weighing 110 pounds and barely able to lift a weight bar I knew something had to change.
I started off by competing with the second best person to me when we ran laps. About every two weeks I struggled but managed to pass one and maybe two people at a time. As the weeks went on I worked my way up the ladder. I learned that with some effort and dedication I can achieve what I want. Not only did I learn that but I realized that the feeling of accomplishment is so thrilling. It motivated me to understand I could apply this to anything. I went from dreading about my future to being excited about it. I want to pursue my happiness in the business world and i'm excited about it.
I've never been so happy ever since. By the end of 8th grade year I had the fastest 100, 200, 400, and mile time. I don't want to brag to anyone because I know its not much but to me its a lot. It made me feel good and I enjoyed the little I got. I'm not the smartest of course but from barely passing in regular ed classes to now having straight A's in dual credit classes i'm thankful for track.
