Teacher Advice by Harlee - January 2015 Scholarship Essay

If I were to give a teacher advice whatsoever it would be to be patient with some students that ask a lot of questions and help those students in any way possible. I would also advise the teacher not to teach unless they love to teach.

My first word of advice is to be patient and to help students in need. The reason being is because too many teachers get frustrated if a student is asking so many questions. Yes it may get annoying, but how are they going to learn if they don't ask questions? Students will stop asking questions if they feel like the teacher gets annoyed every time a seemingly easy answered question is asked. As a teacher, it is your job to help your students understand the material if they don't understand it.

My second word of advice is to only teach if you love teaching. This is not a blow to anyone in particular. It has been proven that people who don't love their job will not perform as well in their workplace. That absolutely translates to the teaching industry. You will not care to be thorough will your teaching if you don't love your job. Students will not learn as well if you aren't loving your job either, they will sense that you don't love your job.

These pieces of advice aren't meant to be offensive in any way. I am being honest though. Being a senior in high school, I have seen and had too many teachers who don't love their job and that are impatient with their students because of this. In order to have the graduation rate go up and have more students be successful you have to love what you do to help that happen.
