Location Does Not Matter by Hannah - November 2020 Scholarship Essay
No limits to my education. The quality of my education is what I feel I should be thankful for this season. When I was in elementary school, I became bored. I had met my education goals and was not being challenged by my local school district. Song with my parents, we made the decision for me to leave everything and everyone behind and transfer to another local school district. The new district had so many more great educational opportunities such as AP classes, dual credit and Science Olympiad. From a young age, I have always craved knowledge. My old school did not provide that for me but the new district challenged me every day. The better education allows me to pursue my dreams, exposes me to new life experiences and new people and added more structure to my life.
In our economy today, career options are declining for those who have not furthered their education beyond high school. Many high school graduates who do not go to college end up working in low paying service field jobs that do not offer any opportunities. The change in schools helped me see my future dreams to become a doctor as a reality. It has allowed me the opportunity to take AP classes, attend college fairs, become familiar with the higher quality education system and see my future plans are achievable. By broadening my choices in classes that are offered, I have been able to acquire new skills that have offered a great advancement in my knowledge in the science and math fields. These will become very useful when I pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. The higher quality of classes and diversity of classes will help me get into the best colleges and be successful. They will also help me enter college as a sophomore and make my dreams come true in a quicker amount of time.
Education greatly improved my quality of life by introducing me to new people and new experiences. Most schools place student lbs into classes based on similar intellectual capacity. This helped me make new friends with the same goals and experiences as me. This creates great strong friendships that have been great for I study groups and homework, but it has also provided me with friendships to last the test of time. The new school has also provided me with rich educational experiences that I couldn’t get elsewhere. For example, my AP Art History class toured my city in a greater depth than I had ever before done and this I was able to relate my class to the outside world in a better manner. With more club offerings, I was able to meet more friends and have more experiences outside of school such as going to Beta or Spanish conventions in other cities. I was fortunate enough to attend the National Science Olympiad competition through my school and met new people and leaned about the places they lived. We participated in a swap meet to learn about each other’s locations. Without my new education, I would not have been able to do this.
The new change of schools brought more structure to my life. I had never really had to mange my time for homework and sports before. My old school gave very little homework and projects. At the new school, I had a consistent amount of homework every week. I knew that I would have a vocabulary packet due every Friday. I knew that I would have daily science worksheets. I leaned how to manage this in with cross country, basketball and softball practices now. I had to learn to use my free time such as lunch and car rides to do homework. These organization and time management habits can be carried over into the rat or my life even after completing my education.
In conclusion, when I transferred schools to a more distinguished school district, the opportunities presented to me became a way for me to pursue my dreams, meet new people, have new experiences and add structure to my life. All of these are helping me work toward my life long goal of becoming a doctor. I have made many friendships through the change and many acquaintances to hopefully last a lifetime. I have had a whole new lifetime of experiences. I have been invited to multiple conventions and camps that have helped me grow as a person and participate in activities out of my comfort zone. I have learned structure that I will carry into my further education and life beyond college and it will help me prosper s d build a future life for myself. A new education in a new school district is one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I am more than thankful for it.
