A Nursing Care Plan by Hannah - March 2020 Scholarship Essay

Currently, I am a freshman at Viterbo University. Therefore, the first four years in my ten year plan are devoted to my undergraduate degree. I am a nursing major, meaning that I will enter nursing school next fall. The next three years will be filled with exams, clinicals, and discovering which division of medicine I enjoy the most. Currently, I intend to become an oncology nurse. I want to then become a nurse practitioner. However, I believe that field experience is essential for those seeking an additional degree in nursing. I plan to work as a nurse for five years, and then enroll in a nurse practitioner program. Many of these programs are only two years, so I will be halfway through another degree. It seems impossible to believe that in ten years I will be in the process of a further degree when I am only beginning the initial one!
I realize that plans can change. Life happens. I may love being a nurse and decide not to pursue an additional degree. I may meet the love of my life, get married, and choose to become a stay at home mom. I may find a new passion and discover a completely different career path for myself. But, regarding my life now, I have a plan for the next ten years. Four years of undergraduate, five years of field experience, one year of a nurse practitioner program.
