Jumping for Fitness by Hannah - September 2019 Scholarship Essay
If I had the opportunity to create a high school extracurricular activity, I would make a competitive sport of trampoline jumping. Jumping on trampolines is a very good and effective method of exercise that everyone can enjoy. With Americas growing obesity rate, this could help students get moving and feel involved. Students could compete in contests such as who can jump the highest, learning tricks, or who can jump the longest. This activity is one that could bring people together in a different way than most.
Everyone can feel involved by using trampolines. There is something for everyone and it is not a difficult activity to get involved in. Trampolines are less expensive compared to other activities. Trampolines can be inexpensive and no other equipment is needed. Just students and a trampoline. I would want to bring this activity to schools because it can bring people together. Everyone can enjoy using a trampoline, there are so many possibilities. Special needs students can benefit from using trampolines because, for some, it can be therapeutic. The bouncy, weightless, feeling brings a new sense of freedom to students. For students with a competitive edge, there can be competitions created for trampoline usage. Competition brings spirit to all of those involved, even if they are not participating. Sports can be daunting for some students, so many tend to stick away. This extracurricular activity can be brought to students who wouldn't be involved in things otherwise. Trampolines can bring people together. There is nothing else in the world like bouncing on a trampoline with the people that you feel close to.
Bring people together is a major advantage of this activity. Bonding with others is something that cannot be avoided while using a trampoline. People jump together, fall together, and laugh together. Jumping high and feeling breathless with other people is something like nothing else on this planet. You get a sense of escaping gravity and feeling free. Everyone can feel the weight of the world lifted off their shoulders while jumping. Trampoline usage is something that is widely overlooked. Students can fully enjoy jumping, either for fun or for sport. It is something that can better a school system. Bringing people together, helping people maintain fitness, and creating bonds that can last a lifetime.
