What important topic would you want to give a speech about to a school-wide audience? by Haley - March 2017 Scholarship Essay

Being a high school student is not easy. In today’s society, I feel that there is a message that is sent to students that says you have to be a certain way. I see students that struggle with being different. There are students that come from all walks of life and life style choices. I sit back and wonder what they must be going through at my school and think that maybe I can be their voice. A voice that maybe can impact a generation of students that will except and respect students for who they are. A voice for students that will encourage and motivate those students to believe in themselves.
I would want to address with the student body that we may not agree with how people choose to represent their life and lifestyle. But if we could be a school with compassion and show that we can put our differences aside, then our school can be a much better place to be. As I see it now, it is divided. We are picking sides and we should be unified. Our generation can make this change for future classes.
I would encourage our student body to be the encouragers and the motivators to those that are different. It is hard to not believe in yourself when you feel others don’t believe in you. I would encourage our student body to first believe in themselves. Think about how good they feel when they get an encouraging word or make a new friend. It is time that we help those that are different believe in themselves.
In conclusion, I would be a voice for those students that are different and to speak to our student body to help impact our future generation of students to be a change in how we interact with people. We are all different. We are all human.
