My 10 Year Plan by Hailey - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
As a senior in high school currently, 10 years from now I will be 28.
28 holds a lot of potential, and I'll be an entirely different version of myself. However, I have a plethora of goals allocated to that future version of me. By the time it is 10 years from now, I hope to have graduated from North Park University in Chicago, Illinois with a Master's degree in education, elementary specifically, as of right now. I see myself living in California, near my family, where I grew up for the first 5 years of my life. I see myself being happy, secure, full of excitement, and truly enjoying life. I see myself creating new relationships with new people, new students, new friends. I see myself settling down, whether this be on my own or with a husband/significant other and children.
Financially wise, I see myself beginning to be smart with money. Investing, saving, spending wisely. After college and going through unavoidable situations of money problems, I see myself taking it more seriously, realizing the worth of it. I hope to be 28 years old, and a wise one at that. One who has invested in stocks, one who has already begun to save for retirement.
Career wise, I hope to be consistent in my work. Like stated, I see myself as a teacher. But, I see more to myself than just this. I see myself being a teacher who students can turn to, confide in, have fun with, and learn a lot from. I see myself using my life experiences to shape the openness and creativeness of the students, in respect to each of their own interests, home life, and curiosity. I also see myself investing into my own curiosities and interests. The living expenses in California are high, there is no doubt about that. So, I see myself potentially digging into a passion of mine to earn some extra money and also grow knowledge in that passion, whether it be fashion, music, writing, or reading.
Perhaps the most important aspect of where I see myself in 10 years is in my own heart. Ideally, I see myself still talking to my family everyday. My mom, dad, siblings, all of them. I see myself still giving advice to my sisters, and poking fun with my brother. I see us all reuniting together for our annual vacations to Disney World. I see us all still having the unbreakable bonds we do now.
Overall, I see myself as grown version of who I am today. I see myself as more wise, knowledgable, logical, and focused, but I see myself still holding all of the fun loving, warmhearted, family driven characteristics I hold today. I cannot wait to see who I am in the next 10 years, and what opportunities and paths lead me to my idealized self.
