Stand Up by Grace - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

In high school, many students sit back and take the easy way out because they do exactly what is asked of them and nothing more. They do not exhibit leadership because they do not take initiative or go above and beyond. However, college is not the same in that respect. In college, students need to exhibit leadership skills in order to succeed and stand out.

Students need to be able to show leadership by sticking up for themselves. They need to be able to tell their professors anything, such as they need help, so that they can receive the services they are paying for. They also need to show leadership in completing their assignments and turning them on time or early. By completing assignments on time, they are showing that they are capable of handling themselves.

In order for professors to remember students, the students need to stand out. A perfect way to do this is to show leadership. When students show that they are capable of performing helpful tasks without prompting, they stand out. For instance, helping professors when they drop something or engaging them in friendly conversation shows the professor that the student cares.

In college, students need to exhibit leadership skills in order to succeed and stand out. Leadership skills are not only necessary for college, but in life. To follow and be followed are to lessons everyone needs to learn, and leadership skills come into play in both. Leadership is a key to life.
