Spread Positivity by Gisella - November 2019 Scholarship Essay
High school itself is all based upon what you make of it. It can be your worst nightmare or the best time of your life. It all depends on your outlook. You determine how your experience is based on many different things.
For me, high school started off pretty rough. My freshman year, my mother moved to a whole other state and left me here to live with my father, or at least what he thought a father was. The only thing that kept me from wallowing in my own self pity was my friends and trying out for my school dance team. Surprisingly, towards the end of that year, I made the varsity team.
That small step of just trying out completely changed my outlook on school. Being involved in an extracurricular activity really made me overall more spirited, excited to go to school, and spread positivity.
Every week for football season, we, the spirit teams, try and get the whole school as pumped up as we can for game days. We figure that is the student is supportive of our school, it’ll make the football team more likely to win since the unity of the school is shown in the most extravagant ways. For example, we have dress up days that we widely encourage everybody to participate in. From nerdy outfits to tacky tourist days, we do it all. Although it may seem silly at sometimes, it's a step that shows that you can have fun and not care about what other people think.
Also, being in dance makes me a role model for my fellow classmates, that includes outside of school also. Since a large amount of us make up the class, we are what many people look up to. From dressing up to add spirit and excitement, to going to all of our classes, and maintaining high grades, we are positively impacting the student body everyday.
Lastly, specifically my class of 2020 is super close. We all come together when it comes to school spirit and everything that stands for. Community service and volunteer hours are expected for our student body. Positivity is key in our environment.
Overall, dance has made positivity spread in our school and student body enormously. From being leaders inside and outside of school, our peers learn from us and positivity and generosity spread like a wildfire.
