Lesson learned by garrett - February 2017 Scholarship Essay

When I was a young boy in JR high I was playing on a school baseball team. I so much wanted to be a pitcher. I tried out but the coach really did give me a chance. It seemed he only choose you by your last name. When I got to the mound I was nervous and I could hear the coach laughing. I knew it was at me, but was not for sure. I did not do well and of course I had to play another position.
So ever day I would go home and practice pitching. I practiced many hours. I got strong, I figured different approaches and had different throws. I would focus on my pitching and not the noise around me.
When I got to HS I again try out and we had the same coach. Coach said "Mr. Payton you try this again". I said yes coach I am. I got on that mound, focused on my pitch and the catcher. I did and awesome job. The coach let me threw several times. After I was done and walked to shake the catcher hand, coach just looked at me a smiled.
My lesson I learned was keep trying and go for your dreams. Don't let one person ruin the dream. I will be going to college this year and playing college ball. I did not give up I just keep trying and trying harder to show that coach I can and will!
