National Honors Society- Hard Work Pays Off by Garcia - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
One of the greatest accolades that I have gotten was to be selected for the National Honors Society and then to be voted for as the treasurer of the organization. It was a touching experience and was the first time that excelling in school had become a true benefit. Up until that point last year, I never had been acknowledged for doing well in school other than from my parents.
I expected to be in consideration for membership into the National honors society and knew that I had a fairly good chance of being accepted into the organization. Once I actually receive my acceptance letter from the school I was elated and hoped to continue to expand my education and to help others through tutoring and community activities that the National Honors Society stands for and tries to uphold.
I decided to run for the treasurer position because I have very good organization skills and others wanted to be president and vice president quite badly, so I ran for treasurer against a few other members. After the votes were counted I was elected to be the treasurer for my senior year which was a great accomplishment for me to see that my peers had seen the hard work that I put into school and my other commitments.
Now, in my senior year, we are preparing to usher in the next group of inductees into the National Honors Society and to appreciate their individual academic accomplishments which make me look back at this memory quite fondly. Throughout this experience, I learned that school truly is important and can help to make a difference among the community. It has also reminded me that I will continue to work hard in order to achieve my ultimate goals of excelling in college and in the real once school is complete.
