Leadership, The Good, The Bad, and The Truth by Gabe - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
In college there are many different skills that students will need to have. Some such as time management, good study habits, and leadership skills. Leadership skills are the skills that can carry a student farther than even college. They can be utilized for life. Leadership skills can help a student in the classroom, on campus, and preparing for graduation.
Leadership skills are needed in a classroom because it sets a certain tone of the student to the professor. The professor will see someone that shows leadership as someone who wants to learn. Now a student doesn’t have to try and take over the class or tell others to quiet down. They can show leadership by always volunteering to answer a question, or to work out the problems of the homework. A student must also show that they have an interest in learning during the course they are taking. The student could also be an influence to the students around them. If the other students see someone leading by example of how they should be acting they are more than likely to follow suit. A classroom will always need someone that will lead others by their example.
Now while on campus there are many opportunities for a student to show themselves as a leader. They could be part of an organization, club, sports team, among their friends, or just simply on campus. No matter what the student is involved in there is always a chance to lead. That student may be called upon to lead a speech, or maybe even an event. If that student doesn’t have the necessary leadership skills, how could they lead? It is crucial that the student body has natural born leaders among them. Some have to be molded into the role. Whichever type of student they must be confident enough in themselves to do the job. Students could also be leaders to the under classmen. They should show them how to act on campus. Guide and lead them of the acceptable behaviors of the school. When they witness the correct behavior they can prosper into the ideal students for the school.
Leaders throughout the years will continue to be leaders even after college. Getting to graduation will take an enormous amount of effort on the student’s part. They will have to have the proper instruction, the correct study habits, and will have to been self-dependent. The students reaching graduation can also scale how much leadership they have shown. Ever since they stepped foot onto campus their goal was to graduate. Some of them may have had to lead others to that point. Many of these students have even had to follow the lead of their professors. If they did their work and did what they were supposed to do then they will have succeeded. Upon walking across that stage the students will realize that everything that they had to do was worth it. Whether it was leading their fellow students in the right direction, or following their peers. No matter what role they played, all of the students were aiming for the same goal.
So some students may ask, “Will I need leadership skills in college”? Well that would depend on if those students want to be successful in college. Everyone will need to take up a leadership role at some point in their life. Whether they want to accept that role or not is upon them. In college leadership skills could prove vital to a student’s education. Students should try their best to show leadership in the classroom, upon the campus, and heading towards their graduation.
