A letter into the past by fritz - April 2021 Scholarship Essay
Dear 11 year old me, you recently have been through an incredibly challenging time with your aunt, grandpa and great grandfather all dying in the span of the last few months. It's going to be hard, but to allow me to give you some advice for the next five years. My first piece of advice is don’t be scared of rejection go ask out that girl ,apply yourself, raise your hand to go first apply yourself. My second piece of advice is stop playing video games its a waste of time one or two hours a day is fine ,but I know your going to try and bury your emotions in hours of staring at a screen that will get you nowhere in life, a third piece of advice would be to work on your self discipline whether its working out every day or meditation learn to control your body in ways I am only discovering now five years later. But most importantly of all never forget how to be a kid.
This advice should help you go farther in life than I could ever imagine and you're going to be amazing from respecting yourself ,prioritizing time on what is important and finally working on yourself as a whole. This will set you up for amazing opportunities.
Knowing when nobody's opinion matters your in elementary school who cares if you do something stupid and I know you think your better then everyone else and that you have to be cool. But that is all going to hold you back from those presentations you had to do in 5th grade where you memorized news articles and gave presentations about it. I would turn red and my voice would be so quiet this is all because you cared too much about what your peers thought of us when in reality who cares . The next memory where I remember caring way too much was when we would have a crush on a girl if anyone brought it up we would immediately turn red denying it and we would never work up the courage to actually talk to the girl when it would have saved us so much grief to just talk to them and not worry about what others thought about. This is an important step in life because it will help you focus when it comes to applying for a job, applying for college, and living your best life without the fear of rejection .
Prioritizing your time is like having a conversation with someone and there's no point to the conversation you're both too awkward to end it but there's no meaningful interactions and its a waste of time. Another major waste of time that you're about to fall victim to is playing video games for almost 8 hours a day consistently instead of going outside and biking with friends ,or going on dates, and even doing your homework. I know this is how you buried your head in the sand to hide from the emotions you had from mom and dad getting divorced, as well as all the death in our family. But there are a thousand much better coping mechanisms than that. Another reason prioritizing your time is important is that you get all your school work done and then you have time to put energy into yourself start a side hustle start working out finally developing yourself as a person.
Self discipline is an amazing trait employers love to see it. The people around you find it almost inspiring. Instead of following a role model turning yourself into a role model for those around you , One reason this is incredibly important is that your self esteem will increase incredibly and you will be incredibly motivated and optimistic to be successful.Almost like a second wind. This is very important because it enables you to get after your dreams of engineering and welding becoming a leader in robotics instead of a wallflower. Same thing goes with social scenarios like a dance or in public speaking.
These things are incredibly important and will improve your life as long as you follow this advice . This will lead you to be the best person you can but most importantly do not ever forget how to have fun. From realizing only the person that matters is you and prioritizing your time is incredibly important and self discipline will carry you throughout your own life. As well as you will have plenty of improvements and self growth so following this advice for the next five years will make your life incredibly important.
