Support of the Student as a Member and an Individual by Faith - August 2020 Scholarship Essay

There are many characteristics that can make a ‘dream’ college but every university has certain features that make it unique from all other schools. What makes my dream school unique is a focus on diversity and inclusion within the student body, support of the whole student, and financial feasibility. These three characteristics set my school apart from others and make it a great fit for me.
Diversity and inclusion of the whole student body is imperative to create a welcoming atmosphere for all students. As a disabled student, it was particularly important that I find a school in which I can be included on the campus and not feel isolated. My school has an excellent Disability Student Services which has helped me through every part of the college process that I have been challenged in. Being able to feel as if my disability does not limit me inside or outside the classroom is imperative to giving me a complete and fulfilling college experience. I am so appreciative of the inclusivity I have found on my campus; I have seen every students’ unique features supported, encouraged, and celebrated.
While I appreciate the support of the whole student body, I would also like my dream school to support the whole student. There is much more to a person's college experience than their academic development. While this aspect is important, there is a great deal of personal growth and development that happens in other spheres during the college time. My dream school should have strong support of all these different areas of growth for their students. Physical and mental health resources are available to all students for little to no cost. My university encourages and promotes the use of the resources they provide to its students. All of the resources and support for me to work on personal development in and out of the classroom are a huge part of why the school I attend stood out to me.
The final feature that makes my dream school stand out is financial feasibility. As a student from a lower income family, it is important to be practical about the cost of my education. At the same time, I am unwilling to compromise the education that will help determine my future. For this reason, my perfect school has all of the qualities I look for in a school and no exorbitant cost of attendance. The ultimate feature would be 100% free for all four years but, alas, no university has yet done this impossible feat. And this is why I’m applying for scholarships such as this one.
There are a lot of different characteristics that are important to making a good school but support of the whole student body and the whole student as well as financial feasibility make my dream school unique from other good universities.
