My Mathmatic Future by Evelyn - October 2019 Scholarship Essay
Ever since I can remember I have been good at math. I understood the concepts from a young age, and when one understands something, it is easier to like it. Moving forward in my schooling, I took math advanced classes like they were candy. Since it was easy and fun, why not earn some college credit and gold stars for doing it? It was not until my sophomore year in high school that I met the best math teacher I have ever had, and I decided that that is who I want to be.
I had Mrs. Donaldson as a math teacher my sophomore and junior years. She was a calm and calculated lady, and also very sweet and funny. Not only was she brilliant and able to answer all of my (and my classmates´) random math questions, but she was also able to communicate with students in a friendly manner. Mrs. Donaldson treated her students with respect, and so she got that respect in return. I have seen a few instances when she did not receive the respect she deserves, but she stayed calm and collected, and continues to treat people kindly.
She is not only a great teacher, but a great inspiration to me. After being in her class for a whole school year, I decided I was going to do what she does. I want to become a math teacher. One that can communicate with students. A teacher who can have authority and respect in the classroom. And most of all, I want to love my job in a way that nobody else can understand. Mrs. Donaldson inspires me everyday to do whatever makes me happy, and I believe that being as poised and prepared as her will make me so.
