Who Will I Become? by Erika - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
Even though I struggled immensely with choosing what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I realized my interest in nursing came from being intrigued by both people and healthcare. I chose to pursue this career because I want to be able to help those that are in need of medical assistance around the world. It is not about the money or the recognition, but it is about making a difference in people's lives. It is about giving hope to those that are struggling with their injuries and doing the best I can to help cure them. Within the future, I am determined to complete all my classes and exams in order to acquire a bachelor's degree in nursing at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Once I earn my bachelor's of nursing in science degree, I will work in the Rio Grande Regional Hospital, where I will become a successful registered nurse. Gaining more experience in the field will further allow me to become a travel nurse to help countries that have suffered with extreme hurricanes, floods, or even tsunamis. Becoming a nurse will be a rigorous journey; however, my passion and commitment will allow me to follow through.
Inspiring young Hispanics to follow their dream is something I also plan to accomplish in the future. There is a stereotypical saying that Hispanic women are known to be the ones that stay home and clean and cook for their families. We live in a generation where that mindset is still prominent but encouraging young Hispanics to go beyond their boundaries is a task I plan to fulfill. To achieve this goal, I will become a member of the Hispanic Women of Texas organization. Within this establishment, I will assist and inform young Hispanic girls about the different colleges, careers, and challenges to prepare them for the future. It is time that these girls understand that they are capable of making a positive impact in the community.
