Get In, Get Values by Emily - November 2013 Scholarship Essay
High school is an extremely imperative period in one’s lifetime. In just four short years, I acquired a good idea of who I am and what I want to do with my life. Although there is a lot of learning to be done and various new responsibilities, getting involved is extremely important.
The most valuable lesson that I have learned is to try new things. Had I not learned this in my time at Minden High, I may not have discovered what I want to go to college for or even if I wanted to go to a four year college. Getting involved in different clubs, organizations, athletics, and even social groups, I feel, will be very beneficial even in the work place. An open mind and an open heart are needed to get a job and be able to work well with others.
Being involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, the cheerleading squad, and Nature Club has given me the privilege of learning how to have appropriate social skills, behavior, and good leadership. Being a part of something gives people the satisfaction to our biological need to belong somewhere. It also helps to pass the time, keep kids out of trouble, and it has made my high school experience a very joyful one. This is because I have made many memories and I now have a greater pride in my school.
Not only have I learned how to act in social situations, getting involved has also helped me learn how to be punctual, responsible, and dutiful. Realizing that other people will always rely on me for something has come with an extreme maturation that will make me more efficient in handling obligations.
In conclusion, being active during high school has been incredibly beneficial and helpful to me. It has instilled morals and taught me how to handle various situations. I am appreciative that my school has so many organizations to offer the student body to help us find out what we are passionate about.
