Economics can be fun by Emily - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
If I could give a teacher one piece of advice to help me learn it would be to be passionate about what you are teaching. The more interested the teachers are in their subject areas, the more intrigued I become. I have found that the teachers that are beyond passionate about what they teach make me want to pay attention and participate more. The grades I received in classes where my teachers are in love with their subject are better.
The best example I could give would be of my micro and macro economics teacher. Dr. Corey lived and breathed economics. I was nervous going into a class where I had never learned a single concept in the past. The first day of class that nervousness disappeared. I could already tell on the very first day that he would teach with a passion and help me along my "economic journey" as he called it. Along with lecturing, he constantly used real world examples and would have volunteers participate in the lecture. He became interactive so the class would get into the lecture and learn the material in a more fun yet still informational way. He sparked the interest in economics in many students. So much so that some of his students converted to a economics major like one of my very good friends in that class.
In my opinion, a teacher can not successfully teach without inspiring their students. The biggest inspiration to students is to see that their professor, who has spent years learning and teaching the same material, still has a passion for it. The passion translates very easily to the students thus improving their learning capabilities for the class
