Because of Education by Emily - December 2014 Scholarship Essay
The question facing applicants in this contest is one of reflection on themselves and their past. For me the answer is simple: education has made me who I am today by opening my eyes to a plethora of topics, ideas, facts and questions about the world around me. It has widened my horizons and helped me become well-versed in a few subject areas. I am now on the road to becoming a teacher myself and I would not be here without the education I have received thus far.
I’ll start at the beginning. I was homeschooled through fifth grade then was public schooled through my senior year. In those first years of my education, I was most intrigued by the subject of English and grammar. I have always loved reading and writing so learning about it was easy. Then in high school I was exposed to algebra and chemistry, my two favorite classes of all my years so far. In high school I fell in love with my math classes and with the experiments we got to perform in science classes.
In my opinion, I have always had good teachers. Teachers who love what they do make learning fun and easy. It is from them I decided to become a teacher myself. So because of them and the love they put into their work, which happened to be my education, I now get to go on to further my own education so I can become one of those teachers who inspires students to realize their potential.
So in a sentence, my education has shaped who I am today by giving me the desire and the know-how to accomplish my dream of being a teacher. It is my education I have to thank for helping me get to college. So far it has been quite the ride, and the best part is that it’s just beginning!
