Teachers Who Care by Emily - November 2020 Scholarship Essay
Teachers have such a hard a difficult job, and they do not get enough credit where due. My teachers throughout my education have been so loving and supportive of me. I am so lucky to have had some amazing teachers. They would know when something was off and when I needed to work harder. They knew how to push me to be my best. I am very much thankful for having teachers that have pushed me to become better.
Throughout elementary and most of middle school, I was able to make straight A’s with no problem. I would be at the top of the class and not worried at all. Everything came so naturally it eventually became my nature to never study. When I was in 8th grade physical science, I then began to fall back. I did not know what to do and would never study. My teacher, Mrs. Jacobson, saw this and knew something was off. She showed me a test grade I had made that was unusually low for me. She told me she knows I can do better and that I just have to put in the work. Her motivation helped to push me to learn how to properly study and I brought my grade up back to an A.
In sophomore year, I began the year expecting to take Western Civ. as a dual enrollment class. The first day of school, I found out I could not stay since my parents were unable to pay for college classes. I was so devastated and did not want to be stuck in a normal history class. My teacher, Ms. Decker, who taught Western Civ., was also upset I could not be in such a challenging class. When realizing I had to change classes, she talked to the guidance counselor of putting me in her AP US History class, even though the class was juniors. She was successful in getting my class moved there, and I absolutely enjoyed it. I am so thankful for Ms. Decker seeing my potential and pushing me to do well in such a difficult class.
If it were not for my teachers, I do not think I would be as successful in school as I am now. I would have never learned to put in effort towards my goals. I would not have realized my potential. Being able to have amazing teacher is something not a lot of people are lucky to get. I am just so thankful for the ones I have had over the years.
