Being Yourself by Emily - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
Going into High School for the first time as a freshman can be extremely, most definitely, scary. All I can say about that is being yourself is your best bet. Embrace who you truly are in high school. I will warn you right now, high school changes everything. No matter who you are, you will change.
High school and middle school are definitely two different places. In middle school, there is petty drama; everyone seems to think you have to be in a certain group of friends. Your first thought is not necessarily boyfriends or girlfriends. You have your first crush on someone new. When you get to the eighth grade you may have to say goodbye to your old middle school friends who are going different high schools on that last day of school.
It is the first day of high school and you will have butterflies in your stomach and you will be nervous, but just think about how many new friends you will make coming into a new environment. High school is not the way you think it will be. The stereotypes are not necessarily true. In high school you can make friends with everybody and there really is not a clique. In the years to come, sophomore, junior, and senior years, you come to realize who you really are, what your likes and dislikes are, and your true friends.
After your four years in high school, you start to notice how much you have changed throughout the years. The way you dress, the way you carry yourself, the way you treat other people, and the way you look at the world all change. It can either be a good change or a bad change but, either way, by the time you get out of school you will know which path to take to be successful and how being yourself can help with that.
