The Untypical 10 Year Plan by Elizabeth - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
When I first entered high school I was very unaware of what my life would be like after my four-year journey. I was unsure about almost everything and relied heavily on my peers and teachers to help me through the next couple of years of my life. Realizing all the big changes that were going to occur made me stress about what the future would bring. Fortunately, I was accepted into the AVID program at my school and that put me on the right path to achieving a goal I was unaware of at the time.
The AVID program has not only taught me how to be a better student but also has given me the courage to do a lot of things I never thought I was capable of. I have spoken in front of many audiences about my time in AVID and how it has changed me for the better, I have applied and been accepted into many colleges and universities I did not think I was capable of getting into, but most of all I have become a stronger person who has drive and determination in everything I do.
The path I was put on four years ago was clouded and narrow. I knew I was headed in the right direction, but I was still fearful and felt like I only had one option. Now, being a senior in high school, the path is still unclear; however, instead of it being a cloudy, dark road, it is now a white space: which gives me the opportunity to do anything I want. Still being unsure of exactly what I want to do does not make me cower anymore. After my four-year journey, I have learned to seize any and all opportunities given to me and to treat the future with positivity and to welcome it.
The next 10 years of my life are undecided for me and I like it that way. I am going to a community college to get some basic credits, I am going to continue to work and I will also begin shadowing people with different occupations. I am no longer stressed about the constant worry of the rest of my life. I have grown and matured to know that everything will work out as long as I work hard and continue to ake oppertuniies for myself that will make me successful.
